Professional Headshots for Supervisors

Graduate supervisors are invited to sit for professional headshots from March 6 to 10, 2017. These headshots are for use on the new Faculty of Graduate Studies Future Students website.

Why is this important?
The new FGS Future Student website will help connect programs and supervisors with exceptional students. Supervisor profiles will be a fundamental part of the new site.
The new supervisor profiles are needed to make the website searchable (current faculty listings are not readily searchable). The new site, designed in consultation with supervisors, will flow student inquiries in a more manageable way for supervisors.
  • The photos will be used for supervisor profiles on the new FGS website.
  • Professional headshots will make strong, memorable first impressions on graduate students as they research programs.
  • The photos will contribute to the consistent look and feel of this leading-edge website, designed to make the University stand out among competitors.
  • Providing an extraordinary web experience will draw the interest of potential students and help programs and supervisors connect with exceptional scholars.
Are there other benefits?
Professional headshots can be expensive. This is an opportunity for supervisors to get high quality headshots at no cost, and without leaving campus. It's a great idea to have a professional headshot; in addition to the FGS website, headshots can be used for:
  • conferences
  • publications and awards
  • news stories
  • social media and more.
When and where are the headshots being taken?
  • Headshots are by drop-in only; there is no need to make an appointment. If there's a line-up, we'll give you a call-back time when you can go to the front of the line.
  • The photographer will be available in different locations on the Main and Foothills campuses throughout the week. See below for the schedule of times and locations.
  • Supervisors can participate in any photo session. If your schedule does not allow you to visit the photographer when they are close to your faculty, you can go to another session.

More Information: Supervisor Profiles and the New Future Students Website
Supervisor profiles will include indexed information about research interests, affiliated degree programs, availability for supervision and what kind of student research the supervisor is interested in supervising.
Supervisors will be asked to provide information for their profiles in March, 2017. These profiles will include webforms inviting future/prospective students to provide detailed information about their backgrounds and research interests to supervisors.
The new Future Students website will provide comprehensive, searchable information to prospective students, including explanations of graduate studies, the application process, fees and funding, graduate student life, the University of Calgary and the City of Calgary, program listings and program detail pages for over 160 degree programs.
Program detail pages will be indexed by keywords, and searchable in the same way as the supervisor pages. All program, supervisor and other pages will unify information with consistent design and branding, making the site intuitive, lucid and easy to navigate.
